What is the 'best' headwear?

Post by Coyote on May 4th 2011, 17:56

So I was curious as to what type of headgear you all prefer? Personally I really like boonie has, but they don't work super well with goggles. What do you all think?

Agreed, with most others options are restricted and coverage is lacking.

Depends on the terrain. If it's completely flat then I prefer a boonie hat along with Oakley sunglasses for eye protection.

If it's rocky and there's any climbing or chance of fall then I prefer my Second Chance 3A helmet along with goggles. I'll also wear a bandana around my bald head to keep the sweat down and away from my goggles.

I definitely feel more protected overall with my helmet, but for comfort I would say the boonie hat.

I've always been a huge fan of either baseball style, or the Boonie, I suppose a "Delta force" style helmet would be acceptable to me, but I've never been a huge fan of MICH style helmets, I always feel like Ralph, or a Spaceball when I am wearing one.

I also love wrapping myself up in my Shemagh, especially if its hot, or cold out, in between it hangs around my neck, usually ticked into my collar.

I find helmets to be the bane of my existence. That said, my unit was primarily inland SAR tasked, so we traveled as light as possible due to the increased gear load. (Well, that and the general lack of shooting in the AOs.)

As for airsoft, this carries over, I find no headwear or a boonie hat are my ideals.

You can be the good guy, the bad guy or the civillian.

You can cover your face, you can use it like a baseball cap, wrap your whole head to keep yourself protected from all kinds of debris, including BBs.

... and when you know how to wrap it like a pro you look BADASS.

I think I'll rock my ACU color shemagh at this Sundays skirmish. I can wrap it pretty well, and I am willing to show others.
