Buying my little bro a gun for christmass
So Christmass is coming and I was wondering, what would be a good gun to get for my younger brother. I was thinking the 1911 carbine from evike http://www.evike.com/products/33631/ or just a 1911 pistol so he could later get the conversion kit because it would give him a pistol and a rifle but I have heard all sorts of bad things about blowback and gas guns. You guys got any advice for me?

Re: Buying my little bro a gun for christmass
There are a few good points and bad points about GBBs.
Good:
More realistic recoil.
More realistic action/part movement.
Bad:
More expensive for the base, and parts
Green Gas / Propane are very temperature sensitive and lose effectiveness/efficiency in cooler temps.
Rifles have significantly lower magazine capacity.
Much heavier.
If you are going to go with something gas based, I would strongly recommend getting a CO2 pistol.
If he is set on the 1911 Platform, this is a good option: http://www.evike.com/products/40446/
Extra Mags: http://www.evike.com/products/38920/
Otherwise, here is a good CO2 pistol that a few on my team (including myself) carry:
Black: http://www.evike.com/products/42815/
Tan: http://www.evike.com/products/44356/
Extra Mags: http://www.evike.com/products/44093/
If you are wanting to get him a reliable but budget rifle, I would recommend the KWA CQR series: http://www.evike.com/products/38177/
KWA Makes very quality guns, and this features the same 2GX gearbox as found in their more expensive guns, however the gun comes with a composite lower, and standard handguards to make it less expensive. Most (if not all) of my teammates use a KWA. This gun takes any standard M4 Magazine, such as: http://www.evike.com/products/39233/
If you want a GBB-Rifle, then I would recommend the KWA LM4, but they are a bit pricey.
A lot of it generally revolves around how quality and how serious of equipment you are looking for. A good rule of thumb is you get what you pay for, oh.. and avoid any gun or gun parts that has "Matrix" as a part of the description.
That's my 2 cents, I'm sure others will speak their opinions as well.

Re: Buying my little bro a gun for christmass
I actually haven't said anything to him and was hoping to keep it as a surprise. The main reasons I was thinking of the carbine was because: 1. It's really cool looking. 2. It gives him a larger versatility. 3. It's pretty unique. And 4. It's not a very expensive platform.
My brother's only 11ish... (I'm horrible with birthdays) so I definitely want something small and lightweight.

I would go with the APS pistol Twitch recommended. It's a good pistol and he would defiantly be able to use it in the future if he continues to get into the sport. Also you can purchase a carbine kit for it since it fits Glock 17 accessories, plus they look better! Just my 2 cents....
